In thinking of someone that demonstrates competent communication, I choose to look at Oprah. The behaviors that she exhibits which make her an effective communicator are, her focused attention on the issue and person who is speaking, her interaction with the person communicating by asking clarifying questions so that there is understanding, her confidence as she speaks with others and her ability to listen beyond just the words someone may be expressing.
I think that modeling some of my communication behaviors after her would be benefit for me as it would allow me to communicate with others where we both leave with a understanding or meaning of what it is we are truly attempting to communicate rather than just feeling as if so many things were not explained or left unclear.
Tiffany,
ReplyDeleteI agree that Oprah is always asking clear and concise questions, is always very confident and is generally always focused on the topic at hand. I too find these attributes and characteristics very important in effective communication. I believe we all can take something from Oprah which can ultimately change us for the better in the communication department. Thanks for sharing!

Great choice, I also believe Oprah is an outstanding communicator. I do believe it took time, patience and research for her to be where she is today.
ReplyDeleteTiffany, I liked your choice of great communicator because I enjoy listening to Oprah because she is always showing interest and respect to the person she is interviewing. She has great eye contact which I know is something that everyone should practice in order to make the other person know that you are interested on what is being said.
ReplyDeleteGreat example!
ReplyDeleteSomething I noticed about Oprah is that she digs to find out more than the surface information and like you said it is so important to really understand. Great post
